Team M4 EMGO Suzuki Ready for Victory at the Inaugural SunTrust MOTO-ST 8 Hours At Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October
16, 2006) -- When the Green Flag signals the start of the
inaugural SunTrust MOTO-ST 8 Hours At Daytona this Saturday at
Daytona International Speedway, Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will be
ready to mount a full charge to victory.
One of the most successful endurance teams in America today,
Team M4 EMGO Suzuki brings both a wealth of experience and an
outstanding list of championships and victories, including 13
WERA National Endurance Championships and 128 endurance race
wins. Founded in 1980 by John Ulrich and Bruce Hammer, this team
also has the distinction of being the only endurance team that
has been in operation for 26 years. Flying the team colors in
the 8 Hours At Daytona will be Michael Barnes, Geoff May and
Chris Ulrich, three of the top-ranked riders in endurance
racing, each with a long list of individual credits.
Haling from Boca Raton, Fla., Barnes has been racing
professionally for the last 16 years and has just about ridden
every type of race bike there is. From 250 Grand Prix bikes to
stock-based supersport machines to superbikes, his versatility
and skill is well documented.
"I'm really looking forward to this event," says Barnes with
obvious enthusiasm. "It has been a long time since we have run a
true endurance race at Daytona and this one is going to be
doubly exciting since this is the first time a motorcycle race
has run under the lights. Our team is definitely strong and
extremely solid and I think our chances of doing well are good."
Equally as enthusiastic is teammate Geoff May. A resident of
Cumming, Ga., May has been riding since the age of four. Turning
pro in 2000, May went on to earn AMA Superbike Rookie of the
Year honors in 2003. A completely dedicated and very competitive
racer, May's determination is obvious, as is his desire to win.
The third member of this formidable team is California native
Chris Ulrich. Growing up around racing, Ulrich, who became the
first second-generation WERA National Endurance Champion in
2001, started racing at the age of 13. Working his way up the
ladder of success, Ulrich's best finish at Daytona was a
third-place performance in 2005. This time out, he definitely
wants a win.
"Racing
at Daytona is extremely intense," Ulrich said. "It is unlike any
other track and is something that every motorcycle racer should
do at least once in their lifetime. Racing on the original
course where all the legends have run is going to be a great
experience and one that I'm really looking forward to. We have a
great team and our goal is definitely to win."
Not only is the action on the track going to be fast and
furious, but so will the action in the pits. Riders will have to
pit for fuel every 35-45 minutes and those pits stops can well
make the difference between winning and losing. This is
definitely a race not to be missed.
The inaugural event of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series will take the
Green Flag on Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 PM (ET) with racers
taking the Checkered Flag at 9:00 PM (ET). Tickets to the 8
Hours At Daytona may be purchased online at
