The Start of a New Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 19, 2007) -- Excitement is
starting to mount as riders make ready to set sail for Daytona
International Speedway and the Daytona 500 K, Round 1 of the new
SunTrust MOTO-ST Endurance Series, March 3 and 4.
The kick off event for the world renowned Daytona Bike week, the
Daytona 500 K will boast intense competition and expert pit work
as a full field of riders battle their way around the 2.95 mile
infield road course for the win.
Showcasing three classes, SuperSport Twins, Grand Sport Twins
and Sport Twins, the skill of the riders coupled with the
durability of their machines and the team's ability in the pits
will all come into play in this action-packed 500-kilometer
race.
And not only will fans be treated to incredible event filled
with action packed racing, but they will also get to view a
variety of spectacular machinery, including motorcycles from
BMW, Ducati, Buell, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki,
Hyosung and more.
A win in motorcycle endurance racing is much tougher than a win
in automobile racing. Unprotected by roll bars, yet swapping
paint and banging handlebars, these incredible two-wheeled
athletes exhibit a unique blend of determination, consistency,
smoothness and courage as they vie for glory in one of the most
competitive motorsports series in the world.
Many of the teams that competed in the inaugural SunTrust MOTO-ST
held at Daytona last October are already planning to return,
including Team Motorrad who held the distinction of being the
very first entry for the first ever MOTO-ST.
"We are definitely looking forward to running at Daytona again
this March," says team principal Ivan Messina. "We will once
again field a BMW R1200S with myself, Frank Shockley and Brad
Phillips taking turns on the track." Hailing from Asheville, NC,
Messina has been racing for the past 12 years and has earned
numerous wins and accolades along the way, as have both his
teammates. "We took a 17th finish overall and are hoping to
better that. We will be good to go when the Green Flag waves."
MOTO-ST is organized by Professional Motorsports Productions of
Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is sanctioned by the American
Motorcyclist Association (AMA) of Pickerington, Ohio. The Grand
American Road Racing Association, based in Daytona Beach, Fla.,
provides the series with administrative and commercial support.
The MOTO-ST advisory board features some of the most respected
individuals in the world of motorsports, including AMA Hall of
Fame members, respected motorcycle racing journalists and
renowned officials from various forms of road racing. Learn more
