A Star-Studded Team

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 22, 2007) -- Daytona motorcycle fans will definitely be treated to a incredible weekend of two-wheeled excitement when Round 1 of the 2007 SunTrust MOTO-ST Series roars into action, March 3 and 4 at Daytona International Speedway.

The kick off event for this season's Daytona 200 Week by Honda, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series features three classes; The Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport class (SST) which includes motorcycles producing between 90-118 horsepower, the BMW Grand Sport Twins class (GST) covering motorcycles producing 75-90 horsepower and Sport Twins (ST) for machines under 75 horsepower.

Featuring riders from all over the United States, Canada, Europe and South America, this breathtaking spectacle will boast some of the top names in the motorcycle industry.

One such star-studded entry looking to make their mark will be the No. 9 Pair-A-Nines Sport Twins team, managed by Gary Nixon and piloted by Jay Springsteen and Jim Filice. All AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame honorees, this team brings an outstanding wealth of championships and accolades to the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series.

Originally hailing from Oklahoma, Nixon is undoubtedly one of the most successful motorcycle riders in two-wheeled history, creating a name for himself in both road racing and dirt track. In a 20-year pro racing career, Nixon scored 19 National victories and earned back-to-back Grand National Championship titles in 1967 and 1968. In fact, when he hung up his leathers in 1979, he was the AMA's sixth all-time win leader and ranked third in road race victories (11) behind fellow Hall of Famers Kenny Roberts and Dick Mann.

Although the majority of his 19 national wins came on pavement, Nixon was also one of the fiercest and most competitive dirt-track racers of his era.

Officially retiring to devote more time to his motorcycle aftermarket company, Nixon has remained highly visible as a team manager and has competed in various events, taking a victory in the 1995 Daytona BMW Legends race and in the 2002 AMA Dirt Track Grand Championships.

Especially eager for a victory is Filice who competed in the inaugural SunTrust MOTO-ST last October. "It was a great event," said Filice. "Unfortunately our bike broke with about 33 minutes left on the clock. Since this is a shorter event, we feel that our chances are really good for taking the ST win. "We've got all the ingredients to do the trick, we just need a smile from Lady Luck and we will be good to go."

A native of California, Filice has enjoyed a long and impressive career in the two-wheeled world. One of the most versatile racers around, this young man started competing in flat track before turning to road racing, both in 250cc Grand Prix and Superbike competition. Enjoying a reputation as one of the elite riders in the history of 250 Grand Prix racing, Filice earned three championship titles. His single biggest victory came in 1988 when he took top honors at the US round of the 250cc Grand Prix World Championship at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif.

Equally as impressive are Springsteen's credentials. One of the greatest flat track racers of all time, this Michigan native, flying the Harley-Davidson banner, won three consecutive AMA Grand National Championships starting in 1976. Six years later, he became the first rider to reach 30 wins in AMA Grand National competition. In fact, "Springer" as he is known by his many fans, amassed the longest racing career in Grand National history, competing for almost 30 years and winning 43 Grand National dirt track victories.

In addition to flat track, "Springer" is well versed in road racing running in the 250cc class and the Battle of the Twins. He also finished fifth in the prestigious Daytona 200 in 1986 aboard a Super Team Yamaha.

An incredible trio, the No. 9 Pair-A-Nines team will definitely be one to keep a close eye on when the SunTrust MOTO-ST action gets underway at Daytona International Raceway, March 3-4.

To date, this year's SunTrust MOTO-ST Series will include the 500K season opener, March 3-4 at Daytona International Speedway, the Homestead 500K, April 13-14 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the VIR 500K, April 27-29 at Virginia International Speedway, the Road America 500K, July 7-8 at Road America, the Iowa Speedway 500K at Iowa Speedway July 12-13, 2007 and the 8 Hours at Daytona Finale, October 19-20 at Daytona International Speedway.

MOTO-ST is organized and sanctioned by Professional Motorsports Productions (PMP) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the Grand American Road Racing Association, based in Daytona Beach, Fla., provides the series with administrative and commercial support. The MOTO-ST advisory board features some of the most respected individuals in the world of motorsports, including Hall of Fame members, respected motorcycle racing journalists and renowned officials from various forms of road racing.
