DIS Ready To Host DAYTONA USA 300 - SunTrust MOTO-ST Series Season Opener
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 1, 2007)
-- During last October's Fall Cycle Scene at Daytona
International Speedway, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series held their
inaugural endurance motorcycle event -- The 8 Hours At Daytona.
On Sunday as part of Daytona 200 Week By Honda, the SunTrust
MOTO-ST Series returns to DIS to kick off their inaugural season
with the season-opening DAYTONA USA 300. The three-hour, 500K
endurance event will go green at 2 p.m.
The SunTrust MOTO-ST Series features three classes; The Buell
Motorcycle Company SuperSport class (SST) which includes
motorcycles producing between 90-118 horsepower, the BMW Grand
Sport Twins class (GST) covering motorcycles producing 75-90
horsepower and Sport Twins (ST) for machines under 75
horsepower.
After kicking off their season at DIS, the SunTrust MOTO-ST
Series has scheduled stops at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Iowa
Speedway, Road America, Virginia International Raceway and will
return to "The World Center of Racing" in October for the
season-ending 8 Hours At Daytona.
This weekend's DAYTONA USA 300 entry list currently stands at 43
teams with riders from the United States, Canada, Europe and
South America.
Among the teams currently listed to compete in the DAYTONA USA
300 include:
- RoadRacingWorld.com Suzuki and riders Chris Ulrich, Robertino
Pietri of Venezuela and Lee Acree.
- John Ashmead, the last privateer rider to win the historic
Daytona 200 By Honda, is entered with Old Pros Racing. He'll
co-ride a Suzuki 1000 with Paul Schwemmer.
- Jimmy Filice, the legendary dirt and road racer and motorcycle
Hall of Famer, returns with the Pair A Nines team. He'll ride a
Kawasaki with fellow Hall of Famer Jay Springsteen while former
Daytona 200 By Honda champion Gary Nixon will serve as team
manager.
- Popular rider Nicole Hoffman, who serves as manager of
interactive marketing at NASCAR, will be back at her home track
of Daytona International Speedway. Hoffman will ride with Robert
Fisher aboard the No. 16 RightsForBikers.com Suzuki. Hoffman was
part of the winning ST class team in October's 8 Hours At
Daytona.
"I'm really excited about this upcoming season," Hoffman said.
"Coming off of our ST class win in October is a huge
momentum builder for this upcoming weekend. We definitely
want to pull off another victory and keep on winning
throughout the year."
- San Jose BMW, the overall winners from the 8 Hours At Daytona,
return with veteran riders Brian Parriott and Nate Kern.
